Competitor decision brief

Visit myfitnesspal.com

What MyFitnessPal customers say

They advertise easy, category-leading nutrition tracking, then broaden the pitch to health goals, habits, wearables, and gut triggers. The 60 newest reviews show that the core food and calorie tracker still works for many people, but paywalls, ads, UI changes, search regressions, and reliability problems create clear openings. You can take the clearest position around dependable logging, transparent access, and fewer steps.

MyFitnessPal reviews, read · 60 of 160 read one by one · 2026-08-29T11:18:17.032Z

The 60 newest reviews show a strong split: people still value the food database, calorie tracking, and long-term accountability, while recent product changes create friction. Paid access complaints center on barcode scanning, ads, and subscription value, and many users report UI regressions, crashes, search failures, and syncing problems. You can compete by making core logging dependable, keeping the free boundary clear, and treating speed and user control as product promises.

Deleted barcode scanner from free app

Try something else. MyFitnessPal only works if you buy Premium. So, now useless.

Paying a subscription.

Aside from paying the ridiculous $80 a year, the app keeps lagging! Every time I open it up, it says “Go premium!”. IM ALREADY PREMIUM. I don’t have to renew till 2027 (if I even do so) to constantly be told you aren’t until I have to reset the app or force delete time and time again.

Why all the gamification?

There are useless “streak” screens (that have to be manually closed). Theres also useless animations that pop up when you try and log food. Theres no way to turn these new gamification aspects off. It’s adding friction, more steps to what should be a simple process. Let us turn off these “gamification” aspects.

Have to pay for everything

This was amazing in the beginning. You could use the basic features without paying for anything and didn’t have ads everywhere. Now, full of trash and you have to pay to even scan a barcode? Really disappointing.

Used to be a good app

The UI update will officially be what kills this app forever.

FREE

An apps that’s actually free and has plenty of features to help you keep track of what you need and if you do want to spend the money, you can get the extra features

Suddenly expensive

I used this app for years and then one day you had to subscribe to it to use it. Haven’t used it since.
