Competitor decision brief

What Lifesum customers say

They attract users with easy calorie tracking, barcode scanning, personalized guidance, and a free starting tier. In the newest 60 reviews, accuracy, AI logging, stability, paywall pressure, and support problems repeatedly weaken that promise. You can compete by making food data auditable, corrections immediate, core logging dependable, and pricing clear.

Lifesum reviews, read · 60 of 160 read one by one · 2026-08-29T11:26:26.463Z

Accuracy and reliability dominate these 60 newest reviews: customers describe wrong calories, broken AI logging, missing entries, crashes, and unstable updates. The free tier and basic tracking still earn praise, but paywalls, subscription value, and weak correction or support paths repeatedly turn goodwill into churn. You can win by making logged values verifiable, corrections immediate, and help easy to reach.

Not paying for scanning food

When downloading this I was expecting a feature at the bottom for EVERYONE to scan everything just by what your eating not just the barcode. I make meals at house not just things that have barcodes but i was hit with having to pay for it to scan my food instead of just a bar code

Awkward to Use

The app is not user friendly. I can’t seem to change from grams to ounces. Adding recipes is awkward. And when the AI is wrong, it’s impossible to correct it. You just have to start over. I’m also annoyed that I paid for a year, have only used 4 days, and I can’t find a link that allows a person to contact the company to ask for help or to ask for a refund. Ugh.

Slop Machine

As an ultramarathon guy, I need a nutrition app that can keep up with big mileage, huge calorie demands, and serious fueling. Lifesum is not that app. The AI feature is honestly misleading. The app talks up its AI like it is some next-level nutrition coach, but the actual experience does not match the hype. It feels like the app is straight-up slop machine and not in an edible way. The calories Lifesum logs do not always match the numbers it says it is logging. That is a huge issue when you are trying to fuel a 50K, recover after a long run, or make sure you are not accidentally under-eating. If I cannot trust the numbers, what is the point, bro? The UI is also clunky and frustrating. Basic stuff takes too many taps, menus are not where you expect them to be, and the whole app feels harder to use than it needs to be. When I am tired after a long training day, I do not want to wrestle with a confusing food tracker. Lifesum might work for casual calorie counting, but for endurance athletes who need accurate numbers, useful coaching, and a smooth experience, it misses the mark. I would look elsewhere, brochacho.

Pop Ups

I used to really like this app, but if you have the free version, every time you go to open it, a pop up appears asking you to go “premium”. It’s forcing me to use the app less and less.

Glitches that misled my weight loss journey

I’ve had this app for years now, even bought the premium at one point but something wasn’t right. I wasn’t losing weight like I was hoping for and I ended up gaining weight. I am a little overweight and I am really trying to get back to a healthy size, but there’s glitches that happen on the app frequently to where it is telling me I am burning more than what I normally do. Doubling or even tripling the amount that I actually burned and I also it’s not counting my walking at all. .. this app needs some serious improvements and I don’t think it’s worth the $99 that’s being asked.

Great for calorie/water tracking

I really like how the app is very easy to use. It has many features to help you track calories. Plus more features that I haven’t used like the recipe ideas. I also like how you can keep track of how much water I drink each day. It really helps me to see how well I’m doing and to be mindful of not eating empty calories.

Fell off a cliff

App always glitches out and doesn’t freezes upon launch even after restarting the app multiple times. When it doesn’t glitch, a pop up to pay always pops up every time

Overall really helpful app with some quirks

I’ve been a subscriber for roughly 5 years. Tracking what I eat has been critical to a healthier life. I dropped 55 lbs and increased fitness overall. This app helped me manage my eating better, supplied some better choices and recipes, and made it pretty simple. The less friction you have tracking your eating, the more likely you’ll track it. The AI updates made this even easier with taking pictures of your meal to track it. It’s not perfect, but it’s often close enough that the slight differences won’t materially impact your tracking. The one area it seems less intelligent is in reminders. I’m constantly reminded of eat breakfast or lunch long after I’ve already tracked it in the app. That seems like a no-brainer to handle correctly. This is a little annoying but not a deal breaker. They also have a relatively reasonable subscription amount. I still recommend.
