Competitor decision brief

Visit calai.app

What Cal AI customers say

They advertise a simple photo-based calorie tracker, but the 60 newest reviews expose a gap between that promise and trust in accuracy, billing, syncing, and support. Their strongest positive signal is accountability and useful tracking when the app works, while the clearest competitive opening is dependable corrections and transparent subscription handling. You should make reliability visible in both the product experience and the acquisition message.

Cal AI reviews, read · 60 of 120 read one by one · 2026-08-29T11:27:12.614Z

Across the 60 newest reviews, 39 are rated 1 or 2 stars, with billing and subscription complaints especially prominent. Accuracy, portion sizing, syncing, crashes, and lost data weaken the central photo-logging promise, although some users praise accountability and useful tracking. You can position against them with transparent billing, correction controls, data portability, and evidence that estimates handle portions and cooking ingredients.

Calories are way too low

First of all. It says they’ll notify you before the trial ends. They did not so I apparently paid for this for a year. Sweet. It’s WAY low on calories with every meal. Remember it doesn’t know what you cook with so all butter and oil is not accounted for. It’s not just these guys, but conceptually the problem with photo calorie trackers. You will get fat if you followed this to a T and they should be clear about that. The one star is for the $30 I paid you that I didn’t want to.

Get rid of streak notices

Don’t like being notified of breaking streaks. Makes me not want to use the program just to see that I didn’t log in yesterday and broke a streaks focus on positives or give the option to control these notifications.

Issues

I’ve been using this app for over a year and have always loved it. I’ve convinced other people to use it as well. However, since the last big Apple update, the app crashes way more often than it works. I can’t believe they haven’t fixed it yet. I check everyday for new updates, but none of the updates have stopped the crashing issue. I’m getting frustrated. This has been my go to app for so long

Love the app

I’m enjoying the app. On days when I use the app it holds me accountable to what I eat.
