Competitor decision brief

Visit posthog.com

What Posthog customers say

They market PostHog as a connected product-data platform that turns analytics and AI traces into investigations, decisions, and code changes. Their strongest proof comes from feature breadth, self-serve access, and a developer-focused workflow, while reviews repeatedly expose complexity and some reliability concerns. You can compete by making the mechanism, governance model, and reliability evidence clearer than their broad self-driving promise.

They receive strong praise for connecting analytics, session replay, feature flags, experiments, and error visibility in one developer-friendly platform. The repeated drawback is complexity: users mention crowded navigation, planning-heavy event governance, and a technical onboarding curve. One review is a clear reliability and scaling warning, citing buffering, flaky experiments, and numbers users cannot trust.

Eliminated data silos, but the backend UI is getting crowded.

We migrated our core analytics infrastructure over to PostHog this quarter, and having event tracking, session replays, and feature flags living natively in a single open-source ecosystem has eliminated massive data silos. It allowed us to replace three separate closed-ecosystem SaaS tools, and the native data warehouse integrations route our event logs cleanly with zero manual API overhead. Because they ship new modules so aggressively, the backend UI can get heavy. You have to strictly manage workspace permissions so non-ops team members don't hit a bottleneck trying to pull simple reports, but it's a solid platform that bought back serious bandwidth for our engineering team.

Amazing for understanding your users

Running an app is hard. Running a dashboard with lots of configurable is even harder. As a developer, I frequently get user reports about bugs that were confusing and near impossible to diagnose or replicate. Thanks to Posthog, I can directly see the bugs and issues our users experience, significantly reducing the headache that comes from error reports. Better yet, with Posthog's Session Replays, I can also better streamline the experience and improve our UI.

Understand Real User Behavior

I started using PostHog for my app analytics, and the session recordings alone have been a game changer. Being able to see rage clicks and where users get stuck helped me quickly identify broken or confusing features that I would have otherwise missed. It’s one thing to look at numbers, but actually watching how users interact with your product gives a completely different level of insight. Definitely worth integrating if you're building anything user-facing.

Great value for price!

It has been SO helpful to use Posthog to understand our marketing funnel and improve our ads/website design based on its insights and recorded sessions.

Needs some technical knowledge to get…

Needs some technical knowledge to get it configured properly, but once that's done definitely the most useful tracking tool in existance. Loving the UI, hopefully their AI doesn't get pushed too much like other companies do. 9/10 experience so far after half a year of usage in both ecommerce stores and data dashboards

Feature are constantly not working

Feature are constantly not working. The tech is thought to work for a small userbase I think, it really doesn't scale well for B2C businesses. Session replays keep buffering, experiments are always flaky, it's virtually impossible to trust the numbers you see in the platform.

Very powerful but increasingly complex

PostHog is one of the most powerful product analytics tools out there. The flexibility is impressive, especially things like feature flags, session replay and deep event analysis in one platform. However, over time the product has become quite complex and sometimes feels a bit overwhelming for teams that mainly want analytics. It’s great if you fully buy into the PostHog ecosystem, but the learning curve can be steep and the UI can feel cluttered. Still a strong product overall.
