Competitor decision brief

Visit thebluedot.co

What Bluedot customers say

Their customer promise depends on affordable charging, but recent reviews repeatedly connect higher prices and removed rewards with churn. The core charging flow also has failures around login, activation, session control, and funding. You can compete by making total cost, reliability, and product commitments easier to understand and verify.

Their strongest customer risk is a combination of rising charging costs and declining trust in billing and program changes. Technical failures also affect the core job, especially starting, stopping, and recovering charging sessions. The rows set aside are none, because all 20 reviews concern this Bluedot EV charging app.

Constantly changing their transfer limits. Now they're completely getting rid of their debit card side of the app. They also won't honor their rewards system and didn't provide a notice for the change (via the app or email). This was all an elaborate setup to obtain a user base, strip away away the key functionality of the app, and leave behind only the charging wallet. I get it, but I'll miss what it used to be. So long, BlueDot. ✌️

The app does update slowly very very rarely. Usually the info loads quickly. Occasionally, charger status is incorrect, but usually everything is accurate. There is a wait for customer support, 15-30 minutes in my experience. The only frustrating detriment using the app is when the charger doesn't start or cuts out after a minute and the app doesn't get the message. Then I'm locked out for an hour. There's no way to stop the session from the app.

This app used to be amazing when it first came out. It appears that now they're on recovery of losses or profit-seeking. They've introduced new fees three different types of them. If you're not paying close attention to every transaction they're basically robbing you. I had an issue multiple times which eventually they refunded me. But the issue has not been fixed because my two latest transactions still show the same issue. You get billed for fees that should not be billed.

Leaving 5 star review (for now :-)). I only charged my car once so far, it worked. I have been using the debit card for a month, and it works great. The "add money by debit card" limits are low-ish, but otherwise the app works well enough. Cash back works fine. I wish there was a way to export transactions (csv, quicken, etc), and send email notifications about the transactions. The experience was great so far.

Jumped through a lot of hoops to create an account, but the reason I'm giving one star is the app's permission request to always track your location rather than the more restrictive only while using the app. It also wants to access the permission for physical activity? I don't know, but it feels like its trying to build data profiles on user activities which I do not like. If it is, be clear and up front, but these permissions are unnecessary for charging and paying when only the app is in use.

The 20% "cashback" on charging is nice, but the exeperience is so difficulit it's almost not worth it. You can use the physical debit card or virtual debit card from the app, but there is no autofill so you have to keep manually transferring money and the transfer options are so slow that I find myself forgetting to refill it and end up just using my credit card instead. To use the cashback, you need to spend at least $50 with the card in a single month, so not good for infrequent use.

No need to fret, the autofill feature will be up and running again in a jiffy! Plus, did you know you can conveniently use your Bluedot card for charging purchases or any shopping? And the cherry on top? You'll receive a whopping 5% cash back on all your auto expences and grocery expenses! How great is that? Thank you for your feedbacks!

Just lost a customer with these price jumps coming September unfortunately. Literally a month or so ago I was paying 0.25/kw and now you want me to pay 0.43kw!! That's a huge jump and unsustainable! It was great until they ended their loyalty program (boost) and were sneaky about it too. Not even letting us know until it was too late. Had to go into the FAQ to even know the dates were gonna go back up. Hopefully they fix these issues and it'll be a 5 star app again

Blue Dot is a great free way to earn extra cash, just by driving your electric car, charging up and spending money! The $25.00 rewards really are add up. But the OP miles just for driving are not accurate. Still for a part time delivery driver like me, the rewards are an extra tip I can count on. The more you spend, the more you can earn! They don't always reward points when the app won't start a car charger like they promise. You can't call them to complain when the app isn't working.
